About Silver Trails Adventures
Silver Trails Adventures began as a way to stay connected to the outdoors when the way I traveled through it had to change.
After years of backpacking, I started to notice that the ground felt harder and the trails seemed much longer. Eventually, after having both hips replaced, it became clear that carrying everything on my back was no longer the best way for me to get out there. I wasn’t ready to give up the trails—but I did need a different approach.
Overlanding became that path forward.
By traveling by vehicle, setting up camp with intention, and choosing routes more thoughtfully, I found a way to return to the places I love with a level of comfort that lets me enjoy the experience instead of enduring it. The adventure didn’t disappear—it simply evolved.
“These days, I care more about better miles than more miles.”
This site is a personal journal, first and foremost. It’s where I document trips, reflect on what worked (and what didn’t), and share lessons learned along the way. Woven into those stories is practical, experience-based information for people—especially those 50 and better—who want to keep exploring without pretending nothing has changed.
What You’ll Find Here
Honest accounts of overland travel, not highlight reels
Lessons learned from real trips, good and bad
Thoughts on camp comfort, vehicle setup, and pacing
Jeep travel focused on reliability and simplicity
Fly fishing and hiking as part of the journey, not separate pursuits
I don’t write as an expert or instructor. I write as someone who has adapted—learning how to stay active outdoors while respecting new limits and making better choices because of them.
Who This Site Is For
Silver Trails Adventures is for people who:
Still want to explore, but at a more deliberate pace
Value preparation, comfort, and recovery
Care more about better miles than more miles
Believe experience matters more than bravado
If your idea of adventure has shifted from distance and difficulty to time spent and places remembered, you’ll feel at home here.
My Philosophy
Good trips, in my experience, come from:
Choosing routes with intention
Building comfort into camp
Knowing when to push on—and when to stop
Letting each trip inform the next
Overlanding isn’t about conquering terrain. It’s about staying connected to the landscape in a way that’s sustainable—for the body, the vehicle, and the years ahead.
Why “Silver Trails”
The name reflects both experience and perspective—trails traveled with patience, adaptation, and respect for what the journey asks of us now. The goal isn’t to relive earlier adventures, but to continue creating meaningful ones in a way that lasts.
Thanks for being here. If these stories help you rethink how you travel—or remind you that comfort can be part of the adventure—then Silver Trails Adventures is doing exactly what it was meant to do.
