Start Here
If you’re new to Silver Trails Adventures, this is a good place to begin.
This site is a personal overlanding journal—a record of trips taken, lessons learned, and small adjustments that make time outdoors more enjoyable and sustainable. It’s written for people who still feel drawn to back roads, quiet camps, time on the water, and trails that go somewhere—but who also understand that how we travel changes over time.
I write from experience, not theory. Everything here comes from time spent outside, paying attention to what worked, what didn’t, and what I’d do differently next time.
Who This Site Is For
Silver Trails Adventures is for you if:
You’re 50+ (or thinking that way), and still want to explore
Comfort, preparation, and recovery matter more than speed
You care about better miles, not more miles
You value honesty over hype
You’re adapting how you travel without giving it up
You don’t need a heavily modified vehicle or extreme goals. You just need curiosity,
patience, and a willingness to travel thoughtfully.
What You’ll Find Here
Most posts fall into one of these categories:
Journal Entries
Trip reports and reflections—what I saw, what I learned, and how it felt being out there.
Lessons Learned
Practical takeaways drawn from real experiences, often discovered the hard way.
Gear Notes
Thoughts on equipment that has earned its place, or gear I’ve moved away from.
Trips & Routes
Overland-friendly routes, camps, and areas worth slowing down for.
Fly fishing and hiking appear throughout—not as separate pursuits, but as natural parts of traveling well.
How to Read This Site
You don’t need to read everything in order.
Start with a journal entry that sounds familiar
Follow the lessons that apply to you
Ignore what doesn’t
Come back when you’re planning a trip or reflecting on one
There are no checklists meant to fit everyone—only ideas shaped by experience.
